Arthur Torosyan, 32, who broke into the Erebuni Plaza business center and was shot, was found not guilty.

In response to Haykakan Zhamanak's question, his lawyer Eduard Aghajanyan informed.

According to the latter, Torosyan was diagnosed with schizophrenia-paranoid illness, which prompted the trial body to petition the court to change his restraint and to select a security measure. The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Vahagn Melikyan, abolished the detention and imposed a security measure. Torosyan was again transferred to Nubarashen psychiatric institution.

Asked if his testimonies in this case would be unreliable, Eduard Aghajanyan said: "The conclusion states that he has suffered and suffers from the mentioned mental illness, that is to say, his testimony cannot be assessed legally, and that he cannot participate in judicial proceedings." According to the ombudsman, this implies that, following the conclusion of the preliminary investigation, when the case is referred to court, according to the established procedure, it will be examined in a special manner. "That is to say, the court will rule on compulsory treatment of a person who has committed an act prohibited by the Criminal Code, not on the question of criminal liability and punishment."
