The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tetros Adan Gebrayesus said self-isolation is not a sufficient measure to stop a new type of coronavirus epidemic, TASS reports.

According to him, decisive steps should also be taken to detect, isolate, test and treat those infected.

"Asking people to stay at home and stop moving gives time to reduce pressure on health systems," said Gebrayesus.

At the same time, he noted that these measures "will not themselves" lead to a victory over the epidemic.

The WHO chief believes that "aggressive measures are needed to" search, isolate, test, treat "as well as" identify patients in contact with healthy people. " Gebrayesus also opined that antivirus operations should be "more accurate and targeted".
