Verdict on Aro's son's death in two police crashes announced

Judge Harutyun Manukyan, at the residence of the Yerevan Court of First Instance in Nor Nork administrative district, announced the verdict in the case of Sargis Vardanyan, son of Zvchv Aro.

Sargis Vardanyan was charged with two traffic police officers' deaths in an accident and leaving the scene of an accident under Article 242 3 3 and 244 of the RA Criminal Code.

At the previous court hearing the prosecution stopped Sargis Vardanyan's Article 244 of the RA Criminal Code and part of the criminal case was dropped on the expiry of the statute of limitations.

Prosecutor A. Margaryan had mediated: Sarkis Vardanyan was found guilty under Article 242 (3) of the RA Criminal Code and sentenced to 7 years and 6 months in prison, deprived of the right to drive vehicles for 2 years.

Defendant's Advocate, Attorney L. Hovhannisyan petitioned for a mild sentence, and defendant Sargis Vardanyan asked for a fair trial.

The court announced the verdict. Sargis Vardanyan was found guilty under Article 242 3 3 of the RA Criminal Code and sentenced to 6 years and 6 months in prison, with less than one year to serve by the prosecutor. The sentence begins on January 8, 2018, after Vardanyan was detained. Sargis Vardanyan will be fined 537,800 drams in favor of the state budget as compensation for legal costs.
